Conférence du Rotary Club avec Philippe Logier

Description

The Rotary Clubs of Saint-Cyr-sur-Mer and La Seyne-Saint Mandrier are pleased to invite you to a special public lecture on Thursday, September 3, 2026, on “Atlantis” by Philippe Logier.

Did Atlantis exist, or is it merely a myth derived from Plato’s Timaeus and Critias?

In any case, there are more than 80 proposed locations, some better supported than others—or rather, some less well supported—and some already contradicted by advances in oceanography. Yet all of them are incompatible with Plato’s geographical description of the city.

Everyone is searching for a royal city filled with treasures, and the lure of wealth certainly plays a role in this frenzy, when in fact what we should be looking for is a vast plain—one that is submersible because it is already submerged.

Starting with Plato, and with the help of archaeology, geography, geology, and climatology, it is then possible to recount the history of a civilization—described by some archaeologists and historians as the “mother of civilizations”—that spanned nearly 6,000 years: the empire of Atlantis.

Philippe Logier, of the Rotary Club of La Seyne-Saint Mandrier, vice president for La Seyne of the Society of Members of the Legion of Honor, board member of the Rugby Club Toulonnais, member of the Toulon-VAR local chapter of the Shifters, and president of the Sillages La Seyne association. A naval officer for 28 years—from the Naval Academy through the completion of the Charles de Gaulle aircraft carrier—he then spent 17 years in industry as director of combat systems engineering at DCNS, followed by a role leading the strategic planning unit that identified and guided Naval Group’s strategy, covering everything from drones to ballistic missile defense, including mine warfare, maritime surveillance, and cybersecurity. He has been retired since 2017.
